Excuse the hiatus – busy weekend followed by a bad cold. Tis the season I guess. Managed to escape all winter without getting sick, and now – BLAM!
On to business: I’m watching the Trayvon Martin/Zimmerman case with great interest. I’m not shocked that the mainstream media made such a rush to judgement and that Obama has taken it upon himself to jump on the political bandwagon and say his piece. I do think it was the wrong thing to do. It’s wrong to immediately assume that there is racism at play when the police didn’t immediately arrest Zimmerman. It’s wrong for the mainstream media to run a photo of Martin that was five years old, even though that is the photo that his family provided. They should have asked for a recent one and been suspicious if another wasn’t forthcoming. They should have done a background check on both involved, and reported on both, not just on Zimmerman. They should have assumed that there would be others who would vet their story. The American people are not easily fooled.
I don’t know what’s happened in this case. I do know that the protests, the outrage, the race-baiting is out-of-hand and needs to stop. I’m hoping that those that snapped to judgement will open their minds and look at the facts, whether they like what they see or not.
There’s a lot of information out there folk – dive in and keep an open mind!
This is going to be mess. A frightening mess. This case has the potential to explode to the Rodney King level and beyond. The legal process is going to be really tough. The media is of course in a feeding frenzy and frothing at the bit to cover the race riots that will ensue. Convicting Zimmerman is the only solution that avoids the violence of the radicals. How can anyone involved with the case not feel the burden of the carnage that will occur if they let him walk? Zero chance he will get a fair impartial trial in this environment. And when they do throw Zimmerman away to save us all from the radicals and media embarrassment we might as well be locked up with Zimmerman. Regardless if Martin was a violent thug or just dressing/acting like one have no doubt that the true violent thugs are watching every second of this circus. What will the fall out of that be?
Not looking forward to this…
Fully agree with you on all points. I can’t believe (well, actually I can) that the Justice Department is not looking into what NBC has done, given their creative editing started this whole mess. I think ethics and common sense has gone by the wayside with this administration. So infuriating.
