Fashion and country music has a long, divisive history. Minnie Pearl and her tag hats? Iconic, gimmicky, but completely identifiable – that was her signature, her mark which identified her as ‘pure Minnie’, as you can see:

Me, I prefer the down-home country look. Give me a pair of great boots, some well-fitting jeans, a white t-shirt and I’m about as comfortable as I can get. A cute dress with a pair of boots? That’s do-able as well, but hard to pull off without looking like I’m going to a Halloween party. This style has been around for decades – Loretta Lynn, pulled it off beautifully in her heyday:

Jewel Kilcher (known in the music industry as simply Jewel) modernizes the style, by adding lace and leggings, in this beautiful promo photo for one of her CDs:

When you want to talk classic country with an elegant flair, no one, in my opinion, does it better than Holly Williams! She may have a famous name (she’s the grand-daughter of Hank Williams, daughter of Hank Williams Jr.) but ,musically, she is in a class all her own, combining poignant lyrics with down-home country picking and playing. And just when you think you know her, she throws in some gorgeous piano ballads to reel you in even further.
Holly gigged at The Hamilton recently in DC supported by her husband, Chris Coleman on guitar along with Sugarland’s Annie Clements on bass, The evening was pure magic!. It’s been a long time since anyone has blown my doors off , but – wow – she has stopped me in my tracks! Holly’s music is a constant on my playlist and will be for a long time. And fashion? Look at these killer boots:
